What is umami beer™?
Umami is the fifth taste that is
distinct and difficult to describe. Umami
flavors are caused by the interaction of glutamates, a naturally occurring amino
acid, with receptors on the
tongue. It is distinctly not sweet,
sour, bitter, or salty, but is instead sometimes called savory. In
addition to having a unique standalone flavor, umami enhances food it is
combined with, making flavors richer and more intense. Three Weavers uses natural adjuncts in our
brewing process to create umami beer, which balances and intensifies the
various characteristics of a type of beer.
Three Weavers is in the process of registering the trademark for umami
beer™.
